Only in Texas

I hope you have protective glasses on, because your retinas are in serious danger of permanent injury. Like, bleeding, pulpy masses of eye goo. In fact, I thought long and hard before posting this. Here at Design Crisis, we pride ourselves on posting pretty pictures. Sure, you may not always agree with our taste, but you must think that our offerings are aesthetically pleasing on some level. I'm not sure how to put this delicately, but the following Houston McMansion may kill you. It will surely haunt your dreams. This is your final chance to run...

I hope you appreciate the mortal peril in which I have placed myself just to post these, but you probably don't. You probably feel incredibly violated, and I can't say I blame you. I can't decide if this house or Rick Perry makes me more ashamed of being a Texan, so really this post is all about my guilt. Sorry.

You don't have to agree with my politics, it's cool. We can get together over drinks and discuss why you are wrong -- I'll still like you afterward. Hopefully, you will still like me. But you must agree this is one of the ugliest, gaudiest homes you have ever seen, otherwise you may need to get your jollies elsewhere. So, I guess there's the line in the sand.

For everyone still reading this blog: I love you, and I promise I won't ever hit you again.

ps: I kind of think the blue room is the worst. That ceiling fan! Discuss.

Put Some Pep in Your Step

It's Monday. How does this keep happening? I suspect it has something to do with the Earth's orbit about the sun, and something else to do with the Jews and Babylonians and other ancient history stuff and things, but it's Monday and I really don't have the wherewithal to delve too deeply into the mysteries of time keeping. What I do have energy for is this:

I feel like I just swallowed an entire Pez dispenser, and that's not necessarily a bad thing. Here's some more candy for your sleepy Monday brain:

AB Chao's lovely home, featured in Anthology magazine. Don't you want to marry that Meredith Pardue painting and have rainbow babies?

Possibly the coolest bookshelf ever, via Marie Claire. Jasper Johns, yes?

Not my usual style, but I'm a fan of anything with Mick in the mix, via Nicolas Matheus.

This picture really deserves its own post. Actually, it deserves to be blown up and plastered all across this website because Cindy Sherman is just the most batshit crazy lady ever to turn the camera toward herself. Thank you, Raina. I love it!

The coming week feels ever so much more promising now, doesn't it?

In your face, Monday. BAM.

Praise jeebus, it's Friday. Hallelujah and sparkle rainbow angel monkeys. I don't know about you, but this was one of the most brutal weeks in recent memory for me. I am probably going to suffer post traumatic stress disorder from it, complete with trippy flashbacks. That might be cool, though.

I am going to try really hard to wait until 5 pm to have a martini, but there's no need to make the whole day into a suffering succotash of delayed gratification. Have a seat. Relax. Take a load off, homies.

That's a double dose of de Sede for y'alluns, because I love you so. Thank you for your nice comments on Ike's room redo. They pretty much single handedly salvaged my wreck of a week.

I hope you all have a fantastic, fun filled weekend!
