Laura Day Living

Hey buddies, I'm still a little worn out from all the drama, so today's post is gonna be hasty but tasty. Remember Laura Day's amazing living room from the Lonny before last? I want to roll around in that room and rub my face all over it like an alley cat marking his territory. Like minded enthusiasts will be happy to know that Day has launched a webzine called -- what else? -- Laura Day Living, full of cute rooms and cute ideas. To me it reads like a cross between the dearly departed Cookie magazine and Domino, which is perfect for us breeders, but still engaging for those who aren't too haughty to bust out their Spin Art machines in Central Park (note to hipsters: Damien Hirst is doing it, so it's ok for you, too.)

See? A little spin art never hurt anyone.

Day's Hamptons beach home (don't hate) is filled with sunny neutrals, which leaves plenty of psychic space for daughter Olivia's massive toy collection -- all stowed neatly away in bins, of course. I love that she was able to make her home stylish yet kid friendly, because it's damn hard.

But don't let the wipeable surfaces and locking cabinets fool you -- Day is still a decorator. Even though we don't share the exact same aesthetic, I appreciate the way she mixes and matches, and mostly I just think her rooms are pretty.

Although the Baughman chairs and lucite tables are pretty badassical.

Oh, and momma like that light fixture. Vintage Mazzega, I'm guessing? Maybe Kalmar?

Plus you gotta love a gal that can afford the best, but has Ikea countertops.

Ok, that's it for today -- it was a long weekend full of summer fun, but now it's time to pay the piper. I don't think y'all would even recognize my house if you saw it today. It looks like tornado alley up in here.

Maybe Laura Day has space for guests?

More Groovy Rooms for Kids

Hey Dudes, sorry you didn't get any love yesterday.  I was just plain busy.  Yep, that's it, no great excuse, but if you need something let's just say the dog ate my computer.  Are we good? Remember how I waited 5 long months to tell you about the little bambino I'm cooking?  Remember how I did that out of fear that this would become a kiddo blog?  Well, it seems I know myself well because all my decor hunting these days is baby-related and that's what's translating into my posts.  Here are a few of my favorite kiddy rooms from drool-worthy mag, Living Etc.

I especially love this room as it is the same color gray as my little guy's.  The black accents and cute-o displays are all in the works for his room as well.  Now let us all ask our resident criagslist genie, Erin, to pretty please find us a chair that cute and please let it be comfy.

I have to admit that I'm not crazy about whatever's happening on the bunk beds over there, but everything else is pretty cute (hello white wood floors!) so this room made the cut.

That pinup picture in the bottom right is beyond stupid, but otherwise I love this wall!  The end.

Cute overload.  I also love that this space is gender-neutral without being totally lame.

This room wins the award for most adorable shelves and best use of tam tam stool.

Ok, now to go tackle a real life kids room.  I hope my kiddo appreciates the finer points of modern decor.

Baby's First Clustered Art Wall

As you can imagine, the largest decor undertaking in my house right now is la bambino's room.  In fact, I was more stressed about how to decorate it then I was about whether he'd be a boy or a girl (I figured I had no control over that).  Over the last few months I've already picked up quite a few prints that will eventually form the little dude's first cluster art wall.  Don't you just think he's going to be so excited to come home to all this:

Since he's going to be born in the year of the tiger (as was his father, uncle, grandfather, great grandfather and great grandmother) I thought we should pay homage with a few pieces of tiger art.  Note: THIS ROOM IS NOT TIGER THEMED, just tiger friendly.  This print, rock candy, was found by Erin and purchased by me in approximately 2.2 seconds.

Continuing the tiger non-theme I also grabbed this year of the tiger print from the same shop.

And finally, I picked up Tiger Phone from the Two Rabbits Studios booth at the Renegade Craft Fair.

In fact, all the remaining prints were picked up at renegade.  If you have one happening in your area, I highly suggest you go.

Because I am having a wee little baby, I thought I should get a few little-kid friendly prints too.  Not just a bunch of insane tigers.  I grabbed this beep beep bike print from Tad Carpenter.

This 2-part pink monster is also by Tad Carpenter, but unfortunately, I couldn't find it on his site and I think he's sold out.

And because I bought so much at his booth, Tad threw this tiny bird print in for zero dollars.  Thanks, Tad!

Having stocked up on some baby goodies, I felt like I could return to my crazy art comfort zone.  I bought this Will Bryant print at the Public School booth.

And finally, because babies go goo goo ga ga over black and white prints, stimulating their little brains straight into mensa, I picked up this crazy eye print for the little dude.

Don't be scared if you feel like some of these don't go together, remember we have several walls to work with here.  Anything that doesn't make the baby's room cut will land in my office, but overall I'm feeling good.  I think he's just going to swoon when he comes home!
