It Don't Matter If You're Black Or White

Ok, so yesterday I tried to be all tasteful, because I expect you people get tired of some of the weirdo stuff I often post. (But seriously -- who doesn't want a plywood house???) Anyhoo, today I am feeling mischievous and spry, kind of like a leprechaun on acid, although I should probably feel like something more holiday appropriate. Perhaps like the great pumpkin on PCP? And by the way, have I mentioned exactly how little sleep I am getting lately? Like, maybe four hours a night, and not in one stretch? IT REALLY MESSES WITH YOUR BRAIN. After a while you pass tired and head directly to crazy. I digress. For this fun Friday post, I'm featuring more lighting, and as an added bonus I'm allowing you to share in my hallucinatory state.

Terence Koh -- this one has poo in it (among other things).

Hey guess what else is going on? K-Dawg will be back to blogging on Monday!!! Be sure to tune in and show her some sweet sweet loving so she will never ever leave us again. I know you all missed her so.

Have a far out Friday!

RIP, Irving Penn

On Wednesday, master photographer Irving Penn passed away at the ripe old age of 92. Among other pursuits, Penn worked for many years at Vogue photographing not only models, but also cognoscenti such as Martha Graham, Pablo Picasso, and Truman Capote. He took as his subjects the rich and famous, the marginalized, and the mundane, and actually I know him best for his close up images of cigarette butts. Although I appreciate the spareness and clarity of his black and white work, I've always enjoyed his color still life shots the best, so I'm posting a few of my favorites that he photographed, the first one dating way back to 1947.

Beautiful, no?

Be sure to check back next week for some super guest posts while Karly is still on Blog vacation. AB Chao will be here on Monday with her best bedroom in America having self, and fabulous real life small business owner Pillow Mint will be in the house on Wednesday. It's going to be radical, y'all.

Happy weekend, everyone!

Paper Architects

It seems that the whole world has gone electric: The Yellow Pages, Google Books, Kindel, and now Lonny. Whither our friend paper? For those of us with an old  timey bent, paper holds a special, tactile quality that the internet cannot replace. One is compactly informational, and one is sensory and dimensional. So today's post celebrates a quality often taken for granted but inherent to paper itself -- volume. And speaking of volume, I'm feeling pretty deflated, so this is going to be short on words and long on pictures. Enjoy!

That's about all the awesomeness I can rustle up for today, friends. I'm going to rest up and hopefully I'll be back tomorrow in full force.

Until then, Baises!
